The Newtown Township Public Works Department is an active participant in several state and national programs. As a resident of Newtown Township, should you have any additional interest in any of these programs, please feel free to contact the Public Works office at (215) 968-2800, extension 246.
Stormwater Management
Newtown Township is required to have a stormwater discharge permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
All stormwater within the Township eventually discharges into the earth, or a stream. Therefore it is of utmost importance to keep anything other than stormwater from entering the inlets through street runoff and/or open grass areas. You can do your part to help by keeping the stormwater inlets (storm drains) clear of any debris and by reporting any illicit discharges into the stormwater system.
For more information, please visit our Stormwater Management page.
Street Sweeping
All dedicated roads with the township undergo public street sweeping on an annual basis. This service is provided in the spring of each year, and a sweeping schedule will be posted in the announcements section of this website, as well as posted via roadside signage within the sections that will be swept that week. When your area or development is posted to be cleaned, please remove any and all cars parked at the curbside, and do not place your trash, trashcans, or recycling containers in the street surface.
Tree & Limb Trimming
Tree & limb trimming within Newtown Township is mandated via Ordinance 2004-O-25.
It is the responsibility of the property owner to trim and remove limbs that overhang the sidewalks and curb line. All trees and/or tree limbs should be trimmed and to a height of 11 feet over the roadway to provide adequate clearance for vehicles. All trees and/or tree limbs overhanging sidewalks shall be trimmed to a height of 9 feet from the surface.
