PECO is making a multi-million-dollar investment in Lower Makerfield and Newtown Townships as part of the company’s proactive efforts to upgrade its local natural gas distribution system. The project is critical to meeting the growing need and demand for safe, reliable, affordable natural gas for customers in Lower Makerfield and Newtown Townships and across Bucks County.
As part of the project, nearly 9,000 feet of steel natural gas main will be installed on Lindenhurst Road to improve reliability and increase natural gas capacity in the area. This investment will also allow additional homes, businesses and communities to convert to natural gas.
In addition, this work will ensure PECO can meet the growing needs for natural gas by existing customers in the area, particularly during the coldest days of the year, and when it is needed most.
The project, which is expected to take approximately five months, will begin in mid-May and is scheduled to be complete in October. Construction will begin at the Newtown By-Pass (PA 332). This work will require lane closures or a detour for the entirety of the project.
- For the first several weeks of the project, work will occur from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday and will require lane closures.
- Work will then shift to occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday for the remainder of the project, requiring a detour.
- For a four-week window, Lindenhurst Road will close completely. Additional details about the closure will be communicated in advance.
- The detour will begin at the intersection of Dollington Road, Stoopville Road, and Lindenhurst Road. It will proceed west on Stoopville Road to Washington Crossing Road, (PA Route 532) and return east on the Newtown Bypass, (PA Route 332).
- Emergency access, mail and package delivery, trash removal, and school bus transportation will be maintained.
- Excavation along Lindenhurst Road will occur, followed by natural gas main pipe installation.
